Spanish explorers established the Mission San Antonio de Valero (later called the Alamo) and Presidio San Antonio de Bexar (Bay-her) in 1718. Now the city has five historic locations that represent the largest concentration of Spanish colonial missions in North America. Events include the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo in mid-February, the Starving Artists Show each Easter, Fiesta San Antonio in April, the Texas Folklife Festival in June, and the Holiday River Parade and Lighting Ceremony in November. San Antonio is noted for excellent golf courses.
